Property is to expensive for the most of us! So how to protect the nature? Oh how I wish I could buy A tropical rain forest! Ahhhh... but you can make one. The artist thinks about Europe and has reflected that tropical plants are very expensive in that part of the world. Every European gardener is amazed with the sprouting of new seeds, new leaves. When he arrived in the Philippines, the artist found out that tropical plants grow in abundance- too many, in fact- that the people do not take it seriously. With environment awareness- not many are able to distinguish that dried leaves, decaying plants and fallen seeds are not garbage at all. Here, in this project- the artist makes a miniature forest- set in a 4x4 box, with soil inside and cemented on top. (The cement, he explains is to fulfill the Filipinos’ concept of ‘neatness’.) With the aid of some tubes, the artist planted a select of plants that commonly grow in the forest. And indeed, the artist has made a tropical rain forest in his own yard! (Photo essay shows growth of plants in the tropical rain forest.)
